We do not collect sensitive personal information as the CCPA defines it (for example government ID numbers, financial account details or precise geolocation), and we do not offer reader accounts.
Directly from you, when you subscribe to the newsletter or contact us. Automatically from your browser or device, through server logs and, if you allow them, analytics cookies (see our Cookie Policy). From analytics and affiliate partners, only as aggregated reports that do not identify you.
We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
We disclose personal information for business purposes to service providers that help us run the site, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing services to us:
When you click an affiliate link you leave our site, and the merchant or affiliate network collects information under its own privacy policy. We receive aggregated commission reports, not your personal information.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the CCPA. We do not run third-party display advertising. We have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of consumers under 16.
We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends it, we treat it as a request to opt out, keep analytics cookies off and do not show the cookie banner. You can change your analytics choice at any time in Cookie settings, linked in the footer of every page.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
Send your request through our Contact form with “Privacy request” as the subject, and tell us which right you want to exercise. To protect your information we verify each request by matching details you give us, such as the email address you subscribed with, against what we hold, and we may ask for more information if we need it.
You may use an authorized agent to make a request for you. We may ask the agent for proof of your signed permission and ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.
We confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. If we need more time, up to a further 45 days, we will tell you why. Requests are free. You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any newsletter email or by contacting us.
Residents of states such as Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia have similar rights under their state privacy laws, including the right to access, correct and delete their personal information, obtain a copy of it, and opt out of targeted advertising and sale. We extend the rights in this policy to all US readers, wherever they live, using the same request process. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision with “Appeal” in the subject, and we will respond within the time your state’s law requires.
We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept for 24 months. Analytics data is kept for 14 months and then deleted. Server logs, which include IP addresses and are used for security, are kept for no more than 30 days.
College Hobbies is written for college students and adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted access to our systems and rate limiting on our forms. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
College Hobbies is operated from the United States, and the information we collect is processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on your consent for analytics cookies and the newsletter, and on our legitimate interests to run and secure the site and to answer your messages. You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, or object to its use, through the same request process, and you may complain to your local data protection authority.
We update this policy from time to time. When we do, we change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and we will post a notice on the site before any material change takes effect.
